Who we are

The New Leader is India’s national Catholic fortnightly, published since 1887 from the Catholic Centre, Chennai. This policy explains what information we collect through our website and mobile app, and how we use it.

Information we collect

Account details — name, email address, phone number and postal address, collected when you register, subscribe, or renew. Postal details are used to deliver the print edition.

Payment information — payments are processed by Razorpay. We never see or store your card, UPI or netbanking credentials; we keep only the payment reference, amount and GST invoice details required by law.

Bank-transfer proofs — if you pay by direct bank transfer, we store the reference number and any screenshot you upload, solely to verify the payment.

Article submissions — if you send us an article, we collect your name, contact details, address and the files you attach, used only for editorial review and correspondence.

Technical data — like most websites we receive basic request data (IP address, browser type) in server logs, kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.

How we use your information

To deliver your subscription (print and digital), issue GST invoices and receipts, send renewal reminders by email, push notification or WhatsApp link, verify your email address by one-time code, and respond to your messages.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers strictly needed to operate the service (payment gateway, email delivery, hosting), or where the law requires.

Notifications

Push notifications (for example renewal reminders) are optional and off by default. You can enable or disable them any time from your account page or your device settings.

Data retention & your rights

Subscription and invoice records are kept as long as required by Indian tax law. You may ask us to correct your details, export them, or delete data we are not legally required to keep — write to us at the address below.
